Kids Corner: Madlibs - Fun English games for kids

madlibs.jpg

It makes you wonder what 0.3 copies of the Lord of the Rings looks like… Madlibs are funny little improvised (not planned) stories where words are missing. Kids can enter words which fit the category in a madlib story generator, and get silly stories created with the words they chose.

Madlibs are great for keeping kids entertained while they use the English language, and are also an excellent way to help kids learn the different parts of English. The madlib generator will ask kids for nouns, verbs, pronouns etc.

Madlibs are one of the games I play with my young learners to keep them entertained while they learn. So far, my favourite student generated madlib was a story about a terrible first day at school where the boy in the story rode a horse for a year, and sat in his English class basting (putting cooking juices over) a turkey at his desk.

What crazy madlibs can you come up with? There are many free madlib generators available. I use squigly’s playhouse as they are child friendly, and there are many silly stories of different levels available to choose from: https://www.squiglysplayhouse.com/WritingCorner/StoryBuilder/.
