Gateway to Grammar: 5 most common irregular verbs in the past
I wouldn’t want to go to the past. I would have been poor and female with lots of intelligent opinions. I think I would be dead in the first week.
To help you improve your past tenses I have taken the five most common verbs in English, and we will look at the past forms of these words. There are three forms of each verb. The first form is the infinitive (the normal one), the second is the past form we use for the past simple, and the third form is the past form we use for the perfect tenses (present perfect and past perfect).
First Form (infinitive), Second Form (past simple) ,Third Form (present perfect)
Say, Said, Said
Make, Made, Made
Go, Went, Gone
Take, Took, Taken
Come, Came, Come
So, for example: “I say hello to the rich lady in the garden every day. Yesterday she said I was an idiot. She has said this to me many times.”
