Gateway to Grammar: The Word Sandwhich (nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs)

The Word Sandwich – A poem about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

“Let’s have a look at that part of the book,

Where all the words are explained,

The building blocks of the English language,

All put together, to make a word sandwich.

The noun is a doodah, an object, a thing,

Put a crown on that noun, and declare it’s a king.

The verb is an action, a doing, a happening,

We disturbed the verb, and now it’s awakening.

An adjective describes a noun, it’s a helpful word!

With an attractive adjective, an image is transferred.

An adverb describes how the verb is “verbing”,

Is it swiftly, eagerly, or stupidly conferring?

And so, as we watch the Noun King’s coronation,

And observe as the verb sleeps through his vacation,

We learn what each of the building blocks do,

And now the English crown is passed on to you.”
