Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for “Cozy”

This week, we are looking at synonyms (words with the same meaning) for “cozy”, which means feeling comfortable, warm, and safe.

Synonyms for cozy:

  • Comfy (from comfortable) - “I’ve decorated my living room for Christmas and it feels so comfy.”

  • Homey - “I didn’t want to leave the furniture store yesterday, it was cold outside but the store felt so homey.”

  • Cushy - “I have a brand new sofa and some lovely candles. It’s really cushy at home now.”

  • Snuggly or snug - “We made our hotel room really snug by bringing blankets and extra cushions.”

  • Snug as a bug on a rug - “Amy is laying in bed now with clean pyjamas, her favourite teddy bear, and an extra blanket. She’s snug as a bug on a rug!”

Snug as a bug on a rug is a silly way of saying cozy, but it’s a great option for when you want to have a little fun with your English or you are speaking to children.

To fit the cozy theme today I am writing this under a heated blanket and a very warm dachshund. This is definitely snug. Now all I need to do is train my dog to make me coffee.
