Wright English Updates: What Does Ethical Business Look Like at Wright English?
Unlike a lot of other businesses, I am just one woman, and I can honestly say that sustainability, responsibility, and supporting others have always been important parts of what I do. That made me think about having a little brag (saying how great I am) about what I do at Wright English to keep my business ethical (good/kind/moral).
Ethical Wright English Business Practices
I never travel for business - in 4 years I have not used a car, plane, boat, or spaceship for business.
Access to learning materials is global and free - all of my English teaching and learning materials are available online for free wherever you are.
Supporting people with disabilities - I specialise in helping people with disabilities learn English and support families through assessments and applications in the UK.
Advocating for immigrants - I support individuals and families by helping them navigate UK legal and education systems.
Secure personal data - every client’s data is stored locally, and wherever possible, not electronically. As soon as it’s not needed, it’s destroyed.
Reusing and recycling - I recycle as much as is possible with the current UK infrastructure, and I stopped recycling plastic bags when I discovered it is a net negative for carbon emissions and the countries we pay to take our rubbish.
No animals are hurt in making my blog - many are tickled, cuddled, given treats, and told to stop standing on the keyboard.
Future Goals
It may not seem like much at this stage, but my goal is to continue with these standards and find new ways to improve ethical practice. One particularly important goal I have is to earn enough to support one or two students of low income that I can teach one-to-one for free. It would give me great pleasure to know that I had supported someone with their career development when they otherwise would not have had that opportunity.
Your Thoughts
I’m open to feedback about what I do, so if you can see any ethical issues with my practices, or you would like to make suggestions for further ideas I could try, please get in touch wherever you find me. I’m all about this stuff, and the more I know the better I can do!
