Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for “laugh”

What is the best sound in the world? Kids laughing. I used to live next to a play school when I lived in Germany, and my favourite time of day was when they came outside to play over lunch time. “Laugh” is a bit of a simple verb though, isn’t it? How about we find some new words that mean the same thing!

·         Alice chuckles as Peter makes fart noises with his hands.

·         (old fashioned) Peter chortles at the funny faces Alice is making.

·         Alice giggles when Peter sings in a very high voice.

·         Peter howls as Alice tries to walk like a chicken.

·         Alice roars as Peter reads a story about magic sausages.

·         (old fashioned) Peter guffaws as Alice plays a prank on their mother.

·         Alice sniggers as Peter steals a biscuit from the kitchen.

·         (old fashioned) Peter titters as Alice tries to beat the dog in a foot race.

Ok, so Peter and Alice are sneaky little monkeys but the sound of them having fun makes every day feel better. Personally, I am a giggler, a chuckler, and a sniggerer. How do you howl?
