It’s Monday so it’s time for vocabulary showcase! Friends are such an important part of our lives. They can make the difference between a totally crap (bad) day at work, and a totally crap day at work that you laugh and joke about for years to come with people who understand you. Good friends make everything better.

Let’s look at some other words for “friends” and how they are used:

Informal:

·         Mates – “Me and my mates usually meet down the pub on a Friday night.”

·         Besties – “I love getting together with my besties and having a movie night together.”

·         Pals – “Me and Chris are good pals, but nothing more.”

Formal:

·         Companions – “You are recommended to bring companions with you for stressful events so they can support you.”

·         Confidantes (people you share secrets with) – “Everyone needs confidents so they can share their inner thoughts with people they trust.”

·         Comrades (friends who are close because of working in difficult situations together) – “We have worked together for so long in difficult situations, we are comrades.”

Old fashioned:

·         Bosom buddies – “Valerie walk about town with her bosom buddies by her side”.

What was the last thing you did with your mates? I spent the weekend with my bestie and her family. We had a big birthday party for the kids and all their pals. Those kids will be eating cake for months…
