Vocabulary Showcase: “Christmas time”

yuletide.jpg

We are all in that lovely period between Christmas and New Year where it is traditional to get fat, sleep in, hug the pets, watch terrible TV, and drink too much. Welcome to Christmas time. There are other words to describe this time, and I will show you the different uses!

  • Ordinary: Christmas time

  • Old fashioned / traditional: Yule, Yuletide, Noel

  • Christian: Nativity

  • Non-religious (secular): Festive Season, Winterval* (*Winterval is quite a new phrase and some older people do not like this secular description of Christmas time).

Enjoy your Festive Season and make what you can of it this year. Difficult times teach us how lucky we are in the easy times. Happy Winterval!
