Business Builder: Nursing Vocabulary

If you plan to work as a nurse in an English-speaking hospital, General English will not cover all the terms and phrases you will need. Business English for nursing covers your everyday needs.

Here is some extremely common English nursing vocabulary for beginners:

Dressings: Materials used to protect and cover a wound.

Charge Nurse: A senior nurse in charge of a ward.

Staff Nurse: A temporary or permanent qualified nurse working as a member of the ward.

Admission: Being received / booked into a treatment facility.

Discharge: Being booked out of / released from a treatment facility.

Draw: To take or extract something (for example drawing blood from a vein)

Response: A reaction to a stimulus

Intravenous: Administering something within a vein.
