Vocabulary Showcase: “bad”

It can be really bad to have a strong sense of smell… Anyway, “bad” is one of those words we use far too much. Exactly how “bad” do your socks smell? Are they only a little bit bad? Or are the extremely bad?

Let’s take a look at some examples of other words that mean the same as “bad” (synonyms), in the order of how bad they are:

1. Disagreeable – a little bad

2. Rubbish – quite bad

3. Crap - bad

4. Nasty - worse

5. Grim – very bad

6. Dreadful – so bad you don’t want to think about it

7. Terrible – so bad that you are frightened of it

8. Awful – so bad that it is amazing to you

Looking at Alan the racoon’s face, I’m guessing your socks are “grim”; so, very bad. Maybe you should change them, or at least get very good at describing how bad they are to your friends. My socks are not even disagreeable yet, but I just had a shower and that’s cheating.
