Kids Corner: Fun ways to learn to read

Whether you are 3, 8, or 12, it can be difficult to find something that helps you learn to read that is actually fun. I would like to introduce you to a programme I use with my students: Reading Eggs (www.readingeggs.co.uk). I am not being paid to say this, I just think it’s great!

Reading Eggs is a brilliant system for learning to read and enjoy reading. Reading eggs is packed full of things that kids can watch, read, and play that all work together to help your child read, and enjoy it. Here are some of the things you can do on reading eggs.

• Learn to recognise, name, and say letters.

• Learn phonics (the sound of groups of letters and how they change).

• Watch videos, play games, and enjoy funny cartoon lessons that kids enjoy.

• Take you all the way from the letter A to a library with over 2500 books for 10-year-olds to read on a huge variety of topics.

• Track your child’s progress and reading age.

• Kids are rewarded with new game items, decorating homes for their yetis, unlocking stickers and videos, and completing progress maps every time they complete a lesson.

• Parents and teachers can print off and use extra exercises for homework and lessons to make sure kids get all the practice they need.

• … And many many more games, features, statistics, rewards, and fun things for your kid to do.

I recommend helping your child improve their reading with lessons at Wright English, and Reading Eggs for homework and play time. Your child will not even realise they are learning, they will be having too much fun! I teach kids with learning disabilities, kids who don’t speak English as their first language, and anyone that wants a little help to make their English reading skills excellent!
