GCSE and A-Level Goblin: There’s a New Infographic About Scrooge!

“Hi guys. Try not to pay too much attention to Nigel, even if he chews your shoelaces. It just encourages him.

Anyway, I’ve worked really hard, with a Wright English student I will call J, to create a helpful infographic (an educational picture) all about Marley’s intervention.

What is Marley’s Intervention?

In stave 1 of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, the ghost of Scrooge’s ex-business partner, Jacob Marley, organises an intervention for him. Now Marley is dead, he is tortured by the weight of all the money he must drag around with him in the afterlife, and by his inability to help the living who badly need that money.

Marley watches Scrooge living a sinful life just like his own, and decides to try and change his heart and mind. So, he invites the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come to show him how holding on to all his money is wrong.

What’s in the Infographic?

Basically, it’s a quick list of all the sins that Scrooge committed in Stave 1, and a list of all the things Scrooge does in Stave 5 to repent (say sorry, undo, fix morally) for those sins. All of these kind acts in Stave 5 show that Marley’s intervention worked.

Wrapping Up

So yeah, take a look and hopefully it will help you revise for your GCSE English literature. We enjoyed making it.

Someone get Nigel out of the food cupboard. You do not want to eat what he’s had his weird little pink hands all over.”
