If you work in the catering industry learning general Business English terms is not going to be very helpful for you. You don’t have rollouts, outsourcing, or AGM’s. The most important English for you is the English you need to use every day. Here are some Business English terms for the catering industry:

  • Canapé – A small bite sized food, often served on a buffet

  • Buffet – Food served to a large table where guests can select their food and collect it themselves

  • Charger – A large decorative plate set at each place setting at a table. Food is not served on it

  • Corkage – The cost of guests supplying their own drinks

  • Dry hire – Hiring a venue or equipment without any labour or assistance

  • Field kitchen – A mobile kitchen supplied to events where no kitchen is available to use

  • Cash bar – A bar where guests are responsible for paying for their own drinks
