Vocabulary Showcase: ‘fake’

fake.jpg

Spotting what is fake or not has become our new favourite hobby in 2020. It is a very important skill. Here are some synonyms with slightly different uses:

A remake of an object that is NOT pretending to be the original:

• Imitation

• Replica

• Reproduction

• Mock-up

• Copy

An object or piece of information that is not true or correct:

• False (adj)

• Hoax

An object created that IS pretending to be the original:

• Forgery

• Phoney (this can also be a person who is faking things a lot)

• Knock-off

• Counterfeit

Take care everyone. Don’t believe things on social media just because you agree with them or they are shocking. Everyone gets fooled by false information these days. Check things twice.
