Gateway to Grammar: Verb Families pt5 - ‘own’

Ladies, gentlemen, and gentlethems (gender neutral), welcome to Gateway to Grammar Verb Families part 5! The irregular verb family this week is the ‘own’ family.

Verb families are a great way to learn how to change verbs when they are in the past tenses. The ‘own’ family are together because they all follow the same pattern when they change into the simple past, and the past participle (also known as the 3rd form).

• Blow (infinitive) -> blew (past simple) -> blown (past participle / 3rd form)

• Grow -> grew -> grown

• Know -> knew -> known

• Throw -> threw -> thrown

• Fly -> flew -> flown

NOTE: Be careful! “fly” does not follow the pattern. It is a little different in the infinitive form.

Learn verb families together to remember them easily and perfect your pronunciation!
