Gateway to Grammar: Verb Families pt.3 “ee”

It is part three of the Verb Family series. This is a great way to learn how to put verbs into the past simple and present perfect tenses in English. We create families because there are groups that behave the same way!

Let’s take a look at the “ee” family and how they are in the present simple, past simple, and past present perfect (3rd Form) :

Keep (present simple)-> Kept (past simple) -> Kept (present perfect/3rd form)

Meet -> met -> met

Feel -> felt -> felt

Sleep -> slept -> slept

Leave (not leeve!) -> left -> left

Did you notice that “leave” breaks the rules a little? It is “ea” and not “ee”, but it belongs in this family because it is similar to the others in the past forms. Did you also notice that the past simple and 3rd forms are the same? This makes it easy to remember.
