Increase your English vocabulary: New ways to say something is “very good”

Let’s face it, sometimes we stick to the phrases and words we know work. We all know “very good”, but it gets a little boring after a while. Here are some more varied and interesting ways to describe “very good” things:

Excellent, wonderful, splendid, tremendous, great, brilliant, stupendous (old fashioned), exceptional, outstanding, terrific, marvellous, fantastic, superb, awesome, amazing, exemplary, fabulous, grand,  and extraordinary.

Here are some safe phrases you can use to describe “very good” things:

·         “It’s the bee’s knees”

·         “It’s a cut above the rest”

·         “It’s the mustard” (be careful this is a negative in Scotland)

·         “It’s deluxe”

·         “It’s streets ahead of the rest”

Here are some more informal (not safe for work!) phrases that you might want to use with friends:

·         “It’s the dogs bollocks”

·         “It’s lush!”

·         “It’s bloody brilliant”
