Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for “problems”

We all have problems. If you don’t have problems, it most likely means you have problems, you just have not seen them yet! It does not mean you have to get down about them. They are just part of life, part of learning, and part of making the good times feel so good.

Let’s look at some different words to say that you have problems, in use:

·         I am having some difficulty installing my new PC.

·         I am having issues with my new team at work.

·         There were some complications during your surgery, you will need to stay in hospital a little longer.

·         I have hit some stumbling blocks with my plans. I will have to adapt a little.

·         There were some hiccups during my studies, but that’s normal.

·         We encountered some hurdles we had to overcome, but every marriage has those!

·         I had many setbacks in my teenage years, but it didn’t stop me in the long run.

·         There were a few snags when I tried to decorate, it took longer than I expected.

·         We had a few hitches on our travels, we couldn’t travel to Belgium on the day we wanted to.

·         There are always obstacles on any path, you learn to get over them.

·         We thought it would be an easy task but there were a few catches.

Remember, whatever vocabulary you use to describe them, problems are part of life. How you overcome them decides the kind of person you are. Ask for help, make jokes, draw pictures, write poetry, do whatever works for you. Problems are there to show you how clever and resilient you are.
