Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for "Eat”

First of all, that kangaroo is having the best day. Look at the size of that carrot. He is in heaven. He is having a wonderful time eating that carrot. How else could we describe him eating? Well, there are actually a huge number of ways to say “eat” in English. Let’s take a look together:

• He is munching that carrot (can mean bite)

• He is chomping that carrot (can mean bite)

• He is devouring that carrot (more formal)

• He is ingesting that carrot (medical / scientific)

• He is scoffing that carrot (eating it very quickly / informal)

• He is feasting on that carrot (having a large meal)

• He is snacking on that carrot (having a small meal)

• He is noshing on that carrot (informal)

• He is dining on that carrot (formal)

What would you be “noshing on” if you were that kangaroo? I don’t think it matters what animal I am, I would still want to live on Pancakes. I would be a very sick Kangaroo… and a pretty fat one too.
