Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for “dreamer”

We all know someone who is a “dreamer"; someone who always has their mind on a wonderful ideal future, and not on what needs to be done today. Maybe you are that dreamer! So, to celebrate all our dreamers out there with new ways to say someone is a dreamer!

• A fantasist – “Robert is such a fantasist. He thinks he will be president of the United States some day!.”

• An ideologist – “I’m a bit of an ideologist. I always aim for the best situation for everyone.”

• A romanticist – “You are a romanticist, Karen. You always think people are nice on the inside.”

• A wishful-thinker – “I thought making a birthday cake would be easy, but I think I was being a wishful-thinker.”

• An escapist – “Don’t let Alice play on the Xbox all night. She is a total escapist and will forget about all the things she is supposed to be doing.”

• Has his/her head in the clouds – “John has his head in the clouds. I keep trying to get his attention, but he just isn’t listening to me.”

I have my moments of escapism with a brilliant film or an excellent book. I am also quite a romanticist when it comes to dealing with people. I always think the best until I know I am wrong! What about you?
