Gateway to Grammar: Modifiers - How to make a banana “slightly meaty”

Are you tired of saying “very” big, or “a little bit” small? Let’s get a little bit more creative with our modifiers. Modifiers are words that change the value or intensity of an adjective or adverb.

Let’s expand our knowledge of modifiers.

Modifiers for intensity:

The banana was slightly meaty

The banana was quite meaty

The banana was relatively meaty

The banana was pretty meaty

The banana was highly meaty

The banana was extremely meaty

The banana was tremendously meaty

The banana was extraordinarily meaty

You can get more fancy using more varied adverbs as modifiers. These change the value of the adjective completely:

The banana was terrifyingly meaty

The banana was hilariously meaty

The banana was boringly meaty

The banana was surprisingly meaty

The banana was terrifically meaty

The banana was deliriously meaty

The banana was curiously meaty

The banana was awkwardly meaty
